We have been supported by several NSF grants, briefly detailed below.


CCLI - Level 1 0736697, 0736552, 0736945

This grant is to incorporate Alice into an introductory programming (CS1) class that is taught with Java. The grant will fund the creation of curricular materials, as well as the testing of those materials in classrooms. Alice 3.0 will be used.

ITEST 0623808, 0624479, 0624528, 0624642, 0624654

This grant is to build partnerships between colleges and local school districts, and to provide professional development for middle and high school teachers on how to teach courses with Alice using our innovative approach. The workshop sites will be in Virginia Beach, VA, Durham, NC, Columbia, SC, Oxford, MS, Denver, CO, and San Francisco, CA.

This grant is to develop curricular materials to combine the Alice and Media Computation approaches into a single CS1-level course. This grant will also fund the running of workshops at three sites (Pittsburgh, PA, Providence, RI, and Atlanta, GA) to train teachers on how to use and teach with this new approach in their classes.

This grant is to create and validate a content mastery and an attitudes instrument for measuring student learning outcomes and student attitudes in introductory computing courses.

This grant is to run workshops at three sites (Philadelphia, PA, Raleigh-Durham, NC, and Oxford, MS) to train teachers on how to use and teach with Alice in their classes.

This grant is to work with three different types of community colleges (urban, suburban, and rural) on how to incorporate the teaching of Alice into their computing curricula.
