Professional Development



We run several faculty development workshops on teaching with Alice, ranging in length from a few hours up to a week. We also occasionally run Alice workshops for students. Some of our more recent activities are detailed below.


2008

March
  • Workshop for beginning Alice teachers at SIGCSE.

June
  • Weeklong workshop for high school teachers (supported by an NSF ITEST grant) in Oxford, MS.
  • Two-week workshop for high school teachers (supported by an NSF ITEST grant) in Charleston, SC.
  • Two-week workshop for middle school teachers (supported by an NSF ITEST grant) in Durham, NC.

July
  • Follow-up weeklong workshop for high school teachers (supported by an NSF ITEST grant) in Oxford, MS.
  • Weeklong workshop for high school teachers (supported by an NSF ITEST grant) in Golden, CO.
  • Two-week workshop for middle and high school teachers (supported by an NSF ITEST grant) in San Jose, CA.
  • Four-day workshop for teachers on how to teach a combined Alice and Media Computation course in Las Vegas, NV.

August
  • Follow-up weeklong workshop for high school teachers (supported by an NSF ITEST grant) in Golden, CO.
  • Four-day workshop for teachers on how to teach a combined Alice and Media Computation course in Orlando, FL.

October
  • Two-hour Alice workshop presented at CCSC-NW in Medford, OR.

  • Two-day workshop on teaching Alice presented at Nassau Community College.

June
July
  • Weeklong workshop presented to teachers at CMU's Alice Summer Institute.
  • Three-day Alice and Media Computation workshop presented at Roger Williams University, Bristol, RI.

August
  • Three-day Alice and Media Computation workshop presented at Georgia Tech, Atlanta, Ga.
  • Three-day Alice workshop presented at California State University - Dominguez Hills, Los Angeles, Ca.

October
  • Three-hour Alice workshop presented at CCSC-E in Patchogue, NY.


2006

January
  • 2-day workshop on teaching Alice presented at the Borough of Manhattan Community College.

March
  • Workshop for beginning Alice teachers at SIGCSE.
  • Workshop for advanced Alice teachers at SIGCSE.

April
May
  • Presentation to the Presidential Awards for Excellence Math and Science Teachers (PAEMST) 2005 awardees.

June
  • 3-day symposium presented to teachers at Duke University.
  • Weeklong workshop presented to high school teachers in Virginia Beach, Va.
